Claude Code

What it does

Anthropic's agentic coding tool. It reads your codebase, edits files, runs commands, works with git and connects to MCP servers. It runs in the terminal, with VS Code/JetBrains extensions, a desktop app and a web version too.

Who it's for

Developers and vibe coders who want an agent that works across their whole project. Requires a Claude Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise or Console account (or a supported cloud provider).

How to set it up

1. Install (macOS/Linux/WSL):

   curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash

2. Windows PowerShell:

   powershellCopy

   irm https://claude.ai/install.ps1 | iex

3. Homebrew and npm (needs Node 22+) also work:

   bashCopy

   brew install --cask claude-code
   # or
   npm install -g @anthropic-ai/claude-code

4. cd into your project and run:

   bashCopy

   claude

5. Log in with your Claude account on first run. Add a CLAUDE.md file to give it project instructions.
