Neon MCP Server

Neon MCP Server official site ↗

Last checked against the official docs:

What it does

Neon's official MCP server for managing Neon Postgres in plain language: create projects and branches, run queries, inspect schemas and run migrations on a branch. It is offered as a hosted remote server with OAuth or API-key auth. MIT licensed.

Who it's for

Developers using Neon Postgres for local development. Neon says it is meant for development and IDE use, not production, so review every action before approving it.

How to set it up

  1. Quick setup for Cursor, VS Code and Claude Code (signs you in and configures the editor):

    bash
    npx neon@latest init
  2. Or add the hosted server to all detected agents with OAuth:

    bash
    npx add-mcp https://mcp.neon.tech/mcp
  3. Or add it to your MCP config by hand; an OAuth window opens on first use:

    json
    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "Neon": {
          "type": "http",
          "url": "https://mcp.neon.tech/mcp"
        }
      }
    }
  4. To limit what the agent can do, uncheck Allow writes on the OAuth page, or use https://mcp.neon.tech/mcp?readonly=true.

Check the official Neon MCP Server docs for the latest steps.
