Exa MCP Server

What it does

Exa's official MCP server for web search and page fetching. The hosted server gives web_search_exa and web_fetch_exa by default, with optional advanced search and an Exa Agent tool for multi-step research. MIT licensed.

Who it's for

Anyone who wants AI-oriented web search in their agent. It works anonymously with rate limits; sign in or add an API key for higher limits and Exa Agent.

How to set it up

1. Add the hosted server to your MCP client:

2. Claude Code or Codex:

   claude plugin install exa@claude-plugins-official

3. Turn on extra tools by listing them in the URL, for example https://mcp.exa.ai/mcp?tools=web_search_exa,web_fetch_exa,agent_run (this replaces the defaults).
